Corey, Nora, and Christopher met in 2007 at Pinewoods Camp and always enjoyed making music with each other, but started playing together in earnest in 2012. What brought them together more than anything was a desire to produce high quality music equally for both English country dancing as well as contra dancing. Since Christopher's move to California in 2014 they have existed as a bi-coastal band, mostly playing tours in various areas of the country. In addition to regular dances, they have been featured at Youth Dance Weekend and each of the members has been on staff at Pinewoods Camp.

Christopher JacobyGuitar, Piano, and Accordion
Christopher provides the rock solid rhythm section of Phoenix. As mostly a melody player in his other bands he has a unique sense of exciting harmonic structure that heightens every tune. While also a member of several contra dance bands including Switching Protocols and Last Exit, he delights in a range of musical exploration from Brazilian Forró to Renaissance madrigals. |
Corey WaltersFlute, Mandolin, and Melodeon
Corey presents a clear melodic style and unique harmonic sense on all of his instruments. His background in traditional Irish music shines through, but his experience playing Appalachian tunes on the mandolin, or playing for morris dancers on the melodeon give him a singular sound. In addition to Phoenix, you can hear him playing for contra dancing with Black River Ironworks and The Long Pond Rounders, for Irish set dancing with The Sunny Banks, and for English Country Dancing with a range of other musicians. |
